Thank you so much for your review Brenda. I'm so glad that you love your towel!
The price is dictated by the ethos of the business. Firstly, the fabric is organic jersey cotton, which is obviously more expensive than non-organic fabric, or microfibre, but I chose it because it is better for the planet, and the people in the supply chain.
Secondly, all GWD towels are handmade here in the UK, again a decision made with people and planet in mind. I know the conditions in which they’re made, and I don’t have to ship fabric thousands of miles: from Europe, to factories on the other side of the world, and finally back to the UK. This would have also impacted the cost, and the lead times would have been around three months.
I never set out to make the cheapest towels possible, and the ethos of my brand is therefore non-negotiable. You are absolutely correct: you could use a T-shirt and this is something I have talked about. It’s also what I used to do. But I found them awkward to use, and I wanted a towel made from T-shirt fabric. I couldn't find any that were big enough, bright enough, or ethical enough, so I started Good Wash Day.
I do respect your opinion, and wanted to explain why GWD towels cost what they cost. I'm actually really proud of the fact that everyone in my supply chain receives a fair wage, and works in safe and fair conditions.
