Are Good Wash Day towels the same as hair wraps?

Hair wraps and hair towels are often used interchangeably, but there are some differences. Our towel can be used as a hair wrap. Simply wrap and tuck to secure. Read more about hair wraps and how they compare.

What makes Good Wash Day towels different?

Good Wash Day towels are made from ultra-smooth organic jersey cotton, chosen to be gentler on wet hair when it’s most vulnerable. Unlike traditional terry towels and some microfibre, their smoother construction helps reduce friction and absorb excess surface water without over-drying, supporting healthier, more manageable hair.

Are the towels suitable for all hair types and ages?

Yes. Good Wash Day towels are designed for straight, wavy, curly and coily hair, and are gentle enough for adults, children and babies.

The smooth jersey cotton helps minimise friction when hair is wet, making the towels a good option for fragile hair, sensitive scalps, hair loss and regrowth.

What size hair towel should I order?

Most customers will be best suited to the regular towel.

The XL towel is designed for very long hair — from bra-strap length and beyond. Choosing a size is about length, not volume. If your hair is shorter but thick or curly, the regular towel will usually be the better fit.

How do I use the towel?

There’s no right or wrong way. Good Wash Day towels can be worn in a traditional wrap style or used for plopping, depending on your hair type and routine.

Can I use Good Wash Day towels for other purposes?

Yes. Some customers also use their towel as a lightweight option for the body, or take it with them for travel, the gym, swimming, yoga, the beach or the pool.

A few have even found them useful for drying dogs who aren’t fans of traditional towels — the softer fabric can feel less overwhelming.

How does my item arrive?

All Good Wash Day orders are carefully packaged to arrive beautifully, without unnecessary excess.

Your item will arrive wrapped in branded tissue paper, with a Good Wash Day postcard including care and usage information. Packaging materials are chosen to balance presentation with our environmental values.

Gift wrap is available as an optional extra at checkout.

Orders are usually dispatched within two working days.

UK orders are sent via Royal Mail Tracked48, which means delivery typically takes 2–4 working days from dispatch.

Orders usually arrive within up to 7 working days.

International orders
Royal Mail quotes 5–7 working days in transit, but delivery can take up to 3–4 weeks in total, depending on local customs processing.

Orders are shipped using Royal Mail’s Delivered Duties Paid service. This means all U.S. import duties, tariffs and handling fees are included at checkout, with no additional charges on delivery.

European Union
Due to ongoing issues with unexpected import charges, we currently don’t ship to the EU via this website.

EU customers can still purchase via our Etsy store, where taxes are calculated and paid at checkout.

What payment methods do you accept?

We accept all major debit and credit cards, including Visa and Mastercard.

You can also pay using PayPal, Shop Pay, Apple Pay, and Google Pay, where available.

What is your returns policy?

Good Wash Day products are personal care items and, for hygiene reasons, can’t be returned unless faulty on arrival, in line with the Consumer Rights Act 2015.

Please inspect your order on receipt and contact us immediately if your item is defective, damaged or incorrect.

To be eligible for a return:

Items must be unused and in their original condition
Returned in original packaging
Received by us within 30 days of Royal Mail confirming delivery

We recommend using a tracked return service, as we can’t issue refunds for items that don’t arrive back with us.

Once received and approved, refunds are issued to the original payment method. Please allow up to five working days for your bank or card provider to process the refund.

My Hair Is Hard Work
I have tried so many products for my very curly hair/frizzy hair, so…this towel does honestly make a difference!! smoother hair more defined curls. The towel is great for taking on holiday as it folds up so small. Made in GB was also a massive plus for me - well done 👏

Best Hair Towel Ever!
I got a good wash day towel as a birthday present, after my mother in law watched Dragons' Den and was reminded of my hair struggles. It turned out to be the thing I didn’t even know I needed!

I have a LOT of hair and have never been able to fit it into a reasonably sized towel. I wasn’t convinced that this new towel would be any different, but for the first time in my life, I wrapped up my hair after showering and it actually stayed put until I was ready to take it off. Plus my hair was dry enough to brush without making a mess and was a lot less tangled than usual. I don’t think I’ll ever enjoy washing my hair, but I think I’ll no longer dread it, which is quite a big thing. Highly recommended.

Best Towel Ever...
The best hair towel on the market. Hands down! I take mine with me in my campervan. It’s lightweight and easy to pack but also dries so quickly.

I’m off to buy another for my husband to use when he’s on the go … a good towel for multi-use.

Brilliant Hair Towels

The Best Thing I've Purchased In Ages
I've been using my towel for 6 months and the difference it's made to my long fine hair is incredible. All my other 'hair towels' went in the bin, I'll be back for more.

Love This Towel
I have very frizzy hair especially when I first wash it. But this towel has really helped! I'll be buying another one soon as I'm a complete convert, and have binned all my other hair wraps.

They're Worth It!
I was a bit sceptical before my first order. I have lots of hair towels and wasn't sure these would offer anything new. However, they are different, I think more absorbent and they make my hair less tangled. I might be imagining this but even if I am, the vibrant colours alone make these towels feel special.

Little Gem of a Buy!
Bought one of these for a recent holiday trip - hotels never give you enough towels for hair as well! Noticed a difference in my hair almost immediately- less frizz and the curls more defined and whilst it absorbs brilliantly- it somehow manages not to get that wet so dries quickly.

Very good quality

This was my second purchase of the hair towel, the first one was white. I wanted to take on holiday but was concerned it would get taken away alongside towels by housekeeping. I therefore chose blue for this purchase, less chance of it getting misplaced or lost

Super absorbant!!

Brilliant!

I was initially hesitant to purchase a GWD hair towel due to the price, however I am very glad I did. I have used this towel twice now and am very happy with the results. I have lots and lots of long fine curly hair to contain. I only use the towel for drying, as I don't plop. Once I have washed my hair, I wrap it in the towel and then get dressed. When I take the towel off, my hair doesn't appear to have any wet frizz and it is still wet enough to apply my curly hair products. Brilliant! The towel dries quickly, and doesn't take up any room when folded for travelling. I plan to buy another for my curly haired young daughter.

Slips

The colour and fabric are nice, but I find it slips off my hair, so I can't walk about with it on. I would return it but I have used it now.

Quality product but sadly not for me

This is a well made towel with a luxurious feel designed to protect your hair from damage and encourage your curls. Unfortunately, I found it too big and I had to fold it to get a satisfactory fit. The fabric is stretchy and if I didn’t get the fit just right it worked its way off my head and I don’t have time for all this faffing in a morning. I can’t say that I noticed any difference in my hair after using it and, therefore, did not feel it was worth the trouble anyway. So I am back to my trusty Terry towelling one - sorry.

Excellent product, you only need to leave it on hair after washing for approximately 20 minutes. It absorbs all the water from your hair and leaves it incredibly shiny .

Perfect!

As a curly haired lady, I absolutely could not live without my GWD towels and now have one in my bathroom, one in my swim bag and one in my suitcase. The headbands in the smaller size are also a game changer and it’s great to be both supporting this ethical company and using up deadstock fabric. A win/win!

Great product, kind and gentle to hair
